The IMBA 602 Project

 

What is a 602 Project?

 

•       The 602 is an International Field Study course and is the capstone of the Schulich IMBA program.  It is an intensive, 8-month project in which groups of students, under the direction of a faculty advisor, undertake a comprehensive strategic analysis of an organization and its environment. 

 

Project Requirements and Activities

 

•        Teams of students are to identify a particular host site that is based in or does a significant part of its business in their region of specialization (in our case Asia-Pacific and North America) 

•        The team will undertake a comprehensive analysis, identifying critical international challenges and opportunities facing the site, perform comprehensive primary research into internal organization factors and the external environment in which the Host site operates, and proceed to develop and articulate a detailed execution plan to respond to those challenges.

•        During the fall term, some of the team members will be in Japan completing internship or exchange terms.  During this term members will communicate by telephone and electronically. 

•        Throughout the project, our team’s work will be critiqued by a Schulich professor.

 

Host Site Requirements

 

•        A business or organisation whose activities involve international operations or foreign market entry, faces complex problems and has the authority to create its own strategy.

•        Approval and endorsement by the highest level of management of the organization.

•        Support in providing our team the internal data required to complete the project.

•        Funding for expenses directly related to the project, not to exceed $1000.

 

Project Results

 

•        A report and presentation submitted to the host site with specific, practical and financially beneficial recommendations and rationale.

 

Host Site Benefits

 

The Host organization benefits in the following ways:

 

•        The Host Site receives a  free, unbiased analysis of an issue affecting their operations.

•        The team consists of MBA students from one of Canada’s top ranked schools and brings a wide variety of skills and backgrounds and perspectives.

 

Confidentiality Concerns

 

•        All students participating in a 602 project and their faculty advisor must sign a Confidentiality Agreement that ensures the security and confidentiality of site data.  Our group will provide further documentation before commencing the project.
